I own a small delta 6" jointer(bought it before I got bitten by the ridgid bug). I imagine I would have the same problem with any 6" jointer.
How do I true a face on board that is 7" or wider?(i'd rather not remove the blade guard)
Two passes on the same face just make sure the gaurd can move out of the way.
With a 6" jointer you are limited to 6". Any wider will not clear the guard properly and will cause problems on the second pass to get that last inch. Really a thickness plainer is your best bet for facing boards.
