Last night, the better half burdened me with the perrenial task of carving an number of porch pumpkins. No problem with carving the little ones. However, my youngest daughter bought a larger one (over 2 feet in diameter). :( I know that this was going to be a task as I remebered a previous experience some years ago.
I got out the cordless recip. saw and put in a 9 inch swede blade for wet wood cutting. WOW! That was the quickest and slickest pumpkin trimming that I ever did!!! :D :D :D No real mess other than the regular cleaning out of the pumpkin guts. The real neat thing was that the longer blade allowed for flexibility for making relatively tight turns. Try this next year and the wife and kids will be really impressed!

Excellent. Of course, Norm would have used the router and some shop-built jigs.
