I've got several friends and acquaintenances that are anti-Obama. A couple were PRO-Bush, and in both cases there seems almost a maniacal effort to shore up and push their political feelings. Even the smallest of events and notices would result in massive E-mailing to, I think, everybody these guys knew or ever knew. It's sort of like a guy who never had a date in his life, but man does he have stories and pictures of every girl he could find a picture of. Sometimes this is laughable, but I find (especially with one acquaintance) that EVERYTHING he sends is easily countered as being false or at least taken out of context and thus extremely misleading.
What the he!! is it with this kind of person, is it that they can't stand "Democrats" or is it the fact that we have a "black" guy in the White House? Really, this is so extreme that it really seems incredible. Hey, I am a "Conservative" (I like to say that I'm a Teddy Roosevelt Republican) and have been a registered Republican since I could first vote. I voted for Reagan, for GHW Bush ... but I will tell you there was NO way I was gonna vote for the empty-headed, no record of GW and I definitely voted for Obama. But that last vote doesn't mean in any way that I'm a Liberal, it simply means that I'm sick to death of the policies of the increasingly anti-American motives of the Republican party. I've seen my job, my fellow worker's jobs, my community, and most of my State and Country diminished by the pro-corporate profit greed and advantages protected by a party that is bent on protecting the rich at the cost to American workers. It isn't fair, and it certainly hasn't proven to be good for the country.
Sadly, if you look at history you can pin down almost every major economic catastropy to Republican economic ideas. Everything from the great silver collapse in the late 1800's to the Great Depression itself and certainly the economic situation of from 2000-2008. Yes, the Democrats are not without fault, but much of that is from their "caving" to Republican supremecy in the time. But that said, the Democrats are too often greedy when they have been enpowered and their focus seems to quickly lean toward self-enrichment in many ways.
It is often said that Democrats are the ones in charge when war or economic collapse occurs, and that does pretty much look like a truism. But what those who express that opinion refuse to acknowledge is that in the previous administrations were Republicans and their policies toward business or international relationships that led to those catastrophies.
A very good example of that is the 20th Century itself. After we went to war in 1917, it was the Democrats who helped bring an end to that conflict. It was the Democrats who worked to establish the League of Nations and thus place the parameters for a possible world peace. But, it was the immediate entry of the Republicans that backed out of that, pronouced that it wasn't our problem, and thus withdrew all support. And, it was the Republicans and their backing of American business and especially investment banking that led to the unstable conditions on Wall Street and the ultimate collapse of our economy. It was the Republicans that refused benefits to those veterans of WWI, that led to the Washington riots. It was also the Republicans and their business supporters who invested more in Germany than they did in all of the rest of Europe's recovery after the war.... actually twice as much investment in "Germany" and thier new Nazi leadership.
And it was Republican support of business that sold Japan (who has little to no natural resources) the iron, steel, and machinery to build thier massive navy and military machine. And it was mostly Republican-supported business that profitted from that and then the following war; and it was many Repubicans that were still shouting for "hands-off" isolationism on December 7th, the day of the Pearl Harbour attack. And, very much like now, we had an increasing number of our so-called countrymen who were against the social support systems that Roosevelt was bringing into existance to help our nation's people recover from the collapse of the Great Depression.... so many, and to the point of anti-government that we actually had "Nazi" parades and camps all over this country, including camps for our children.
Sadly, we see all of this repeating itself. Saddam Hussien was our ally under Reagan. We supplied the Afgan Islamists during the Russian occupation, and we openly support our corporations in thier export of our jobs to China... thus making it the most rapid growing economy in the world and in so doing we are giving them untold technological support. My ex-employer, as well as the number one emplorer in our area, are both century old companies that are known for thier particular products. And both of these companies (with help the Republican government of the time) have seriously reduced their business here in our valley (and elsewhere throughout the country) and sent it to China. In fact, they did so not by taking inducements from China, but by GIVING inducements to China so that they could. Everywhere we look we've seen our products gone and with them, our jobs. And the result of that is you can't drive anywhere without seeing closed stores, warehouses, factories, dealorships, restaurants and hotels. All gone, because our jobs and our products have been moved to China... with the help and support and sometimes with the direct cash infusion from the then, Republican government.
But in spite of that, what we have is a massive propaganda machine and a bunch of "believers" who blindly, and with no ambition to check the truth, propel this garbage of mis-information to others. And it isn't like any of it is being stuffed down our throats... we are actually out there seeking such stuff, and why is that?
CWS, I'm probably the only guy who does not like President Obama for reasons other than his being black and a democrat. Seriously? You and I post links from wiki ( a great source for accuracy), yahoo and the rest of the internet, but I remember how the economy was since nixon, we were living in a fantasy land unaware of what was down the road. You may look back on President Carter's years as glorious but I remember differently. President Clinton certainly brought a new level of respect to the office of the President
I don't look back and see democrats and republicans, I see failure after failure because the downfall of our economy was inevitable. American jobs were leaving our country under nixon and his successors, so just because the collapse did not happen under clinton does not make his term any better in my opinion. How can you place blame on one party or the other when the loss of American jobs, revenue paying American businesses and the fraud and lying in the stock market, housing market and other economic sensitive institutions took place over course of many different political administrations?
I blame and dislike President Obama for his actions and decisions, failed stimulus, cash for clunkers, grand speeches about clean burning coal and green jobs. His failure to work with business to encourage job growth, his failure to encourage oil exploration and lower the cost of gasoline. The increasing national debt and now his proposals on the environment.
Some great minds think we either choose progressive or regressive in how we respond in the present to secure the future. I think it's much more complicated and requires more practical thinking.
There are too many people unemployed, too many receiving entitlements, too much government spending and national debt, too many bad decisions to risk anymore. The President's skin color and party association mean nothing to me or many Americans. The President's past and present decisions are the bottom line and in my opinion he has not only failed, he is leading us on a path of certain doom. I would say the same of a republican President doing the same, but that does not matter to party loyalists who can't think for themselves. I think we would be right where we are whether we had successive administrations of either all democrats or all republicans. The over spending, loss of industries, jobs, fraud and the rest would not change. Where do we go from here?
And yet the economy seems to be improving and growing. Maybe not as fast as we would like but it is moving. We have to quit living in the past. Our industrial economy is changing and there is little that can be done to stop that. So we don't make shoes anymore, we make carbon fiber turbine blades. W don't weave textiles anymore, we manufacture the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactor. We don't make televisions anymore, we make high temperature ceramics. W don't make toys anymore, we reinvent technologies. It will take time for our new selves to catch up with the past. Be patient, your grandchildren will inherit the fruits of change
NHM, the economy may "seem" to be moving that way but in my uneducated opinion it only seems that way. Considering the millions who need to be employed, the trade deficit (American dollars that never come back) and all the rest I keep harping on, I doubt those grandchildren will live to see those changes. Don't pay any attention to me I'm cluless compared to those who really know what's what.
Frankie, Your rhetoric is getting so old that I could almost write it for you. Are you ever going to offer a solution or just continue to harp?
Kid, just because you're sick of my harping doesn't mean I'm wrong. Most folks including our legislators don't have the stomach for my solutions. You must have read some of my solutions, but here they are once more. Rduce gov't spending including entitlements, repeal the healthcare bill ( we can't afford healthcare for all, some people need to die, sorry), balance the budget, secure the borders, no more plea bargaining for the guilty and no more parole for convicted murderers, get the cost of a gallon of gasoline down to $2 anyway necessary, it can and must be done. repeal some of the EPA mandates to encourage industry, heavy tarrifs on imports and tax penalties for businesses that do not employ Americans but seel their products here, no more lobbyists, full disclosure on all politicians icome including their charities, no more pork spending, mandatory jail sentences for fraud, mandatory deportation for illegal criminals convicted of nonviolent crimes, .
Hey, I'm getting tired, CWS and NHM help me out you guys read my posts, what else needs to be done and don't mention any of that progressive junk. Kid, you need to pay closer attention to my harping, there's some good stuff in there.
