I recently bought two generic 815a self opening die heads. installed new dies and headed out to thread up some 1-1/4" black gas lines for a house I'm working on , and SURPRISE , i can't get the thing to adjust properly. still no luck after about 1/2 hour of adjustments so i took it off and threw it in the back of the van before i got 'really' angry and took a pipe wrench to it . i can send them back , no problem , but here's my question. Is the RIDGID brand 815 a self opening die head worth the enormos price ? We do plumbing and heating in about 60 new homes per year so my threader gets alot of use. i don't have time to be useing shitty tools so if anyone is useing the 815a self opening die head that can give me some feedback on it I would be greatful.
